New to quad skating? Start here
Everyone was new once.
Quad skating is having a moment in California, and every rink floor has someone on it for the first time this week. You don't need your own skates, a crew, or any particular body type. You need a flat floor, some padding, and a reason to come back next week. This page is how to get all three.
Your first session
Rent, don't buy.
Every rink below rents quads for a few dollars, included with admission at most. Wait until you've been three times before spending on your own pair — then hit a local skate shop (the Shops tab in the app maps the quad shops near you, and the people behind the counter are the best free advice in the sport).
Gear that matters.
A helmet, and wrist guards. Knee pads once you try park surfaces. That's it — dress to move and bring socks that go above the ankle.
What it feels like.
Wobbly for the first twenty minutes, then suddenly not. Almost nobody falls in a first rink session — the floor is flat, the walls are close, and the crowd is slower than you think. Check the crowd reports on any spot page before you go; an "empty" Tuesday is a better first skate than a packed Saturday.
