Rainbow Dome opens its permanent indoor roller rink in Denver's Sun Valley
Rainbow Dome, the queer-centered art and skating group that has thrown pop-up skate nights around the Denver metro since 2021, opens its own rink on Friday, Oct. 23 at 1660 N. Federal Blvd. in Sun Valley. The $10 million project turned a former furniture store into a wood-floor rink with a rental desk, lockers, a lounge and a low-sensory room. Opening night is sold out; regular hours run Thursday through Sunday.

Founders Frankie Toan and Therin Zimmerman held their first pop-up in October 2021 and spent about three years renovating the 29,000-square-foot building near Empower Field, which was a furniture store. The skating floor is downstairs. The founders hope to rent the upstairs to groups with similar values.
Rainbow Dome is open Thursday 5 to 10 p.m., Friday 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults 19 and over, $10 for teens 13 to 18, $8 for ages 6 to 12 and free for 5 and under. Skate rental is $5 for adults and teens and $2 for kids, and skaters can bring their own skates.
Advance tickets for opening night, which starts at 6 p.m., are sold out, and Denverite reports a limited number will be sold at the door. Details are from Westword (Oct. 21) and Denverite (Oct. 20) reports; check rainbowdome.com for changes.
